Alderman Court Judge

Town of Laurel, Delaware
The Town of Laurel is seeking an Alderman with proven leadership and management skills to lead our Alderman Court.  The successful candidate must have a background that demonstrates a commitment to fostering effective channels of communication within his/her staff and the ability to effectively communicate with the customers/clients.  The Alderman must possess an extensive knowledge of Delaware State Law, criminal justice, courtroom procedures, and ability to understand and learn Town of Laurel Codes and Ordinances. The Alderman handles arraignments and other court proceedings.  The Alderman also conducts trials and proceedings in traffic, criminal, and town ordinance matters.  He or she must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and to deal with the public in a courteous and professional manner.    He or she must be able to communicate effectively within the department, with elected officials, and with the public. The Alderman must conduct the business of his or her office with honesty and integrity and project positive professional image.
Education, Training and Experience
  1. Specialized education and training are desirable.
  2. Additional professional experience or specialized training may substitute for some or all required education requirements.
  3. Must be able to interpret state law and town law.
  4. Must be of good reputation and character and must pass a rigorous background check.
  5. A successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to work closely with elected official, municipal administrators and staff.
  6. Must be proficient in fiscal management, personnel manager, and supervisory techniques,
  7. Must be appointed by the Governor of the State of Delaware.
Salary and Benefit Package
      The position is a full time position, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Salary is to be determined consistent with qualification

Public Works Maintenance Tech

The Town of Laurel is accepting applications for the position of Public Works Maintenance Technician; experience is preferred in water, sewer main repair, lawn maintenance, and the ability to do minor maintenance. Must possess the ability to lift at least 60 pounds, work in in climate weather, have a high school diploma, or GED, and have a valid driver’s license. Typical work week is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 40 hour work week. Must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays when necessary. Position is required to obtain Delaware Water License within one year of hire. This position reports directly to the Public Works Superintendent. Salary DOQ, plus Town of Laurel benefit package. Wastewater Operator

The Town of Laurel is seeking to hire a Wastewater Operator.   The position requires the individual to perform daily wastewater test and perform operational changes when directed by the supervisor.  Perform daily checks of equipment and perform maintenance and repairs of the wastewater treatment facilities, as well as the wastewater lift stations.  This position requires a minimum of a Delaware Wastewater Level I license or higher.  Minimum of two years experience is preferred but not required.  Must be able to lift at least 60 pounds and work in in climate weather.  High School Diploma or equipment and possession of a valid driver’s license is required.  Typical work week is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is a 40 hour work week.  Must be willing to work nights, weekends, be on call and holidays when necessary.  This position reports directly to the Wastewater Superintendent.
