The Town of Laurel is currently seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Director of Planning & Code Enforcement. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing all planning and code enforcement operations within the town, including the supervision of two part-time Code Enforcement Officers and an assistant Code Enforcement Officer. The Director of Planning & Code Enforcement is responsible for: Enforce and interpret the Town of Laurel Codes and related laws and ordinances; Conduct and oversee residential and commercial building inspections; Review site and building plans for compliance with applicable regulations; Provide guidance to department staff to ensure efficient and effective enforcement of building, plumbing, rental, zoning, and property maintenance codes; Serve as a point of contact for property owners, developers, and contractors regarding code and land development regulations. And Communicate clearly and professionally, both in writing and orally. Required Knowledge & Skills must include: Expert understanding of code enforcement and inspection procedures; Proficiency in the International Building Code, International Plumbing Code, International Property Maintenance Code, ADA requirements, and other applicable regulations.; familiarity with construction materials, standards, and practices; Experience in interpreting and reviewing site and building plan documents.; Ability to lead and supervise a small team. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in planning or a related field is preferred. Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience in planning, code enforcement, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted for some or all professional experience and education requirements.
